BACKGROUND OF PROJECT

Tiger Brands has been supporting Phomolong Primary School from March 2006 with food parcels to support about ± 400 orphans on a monthly basis. Whilst Phomolong has 2500 enrolment, 400 were identified as most needy to take food parcels home, as it was evident that the only meal they would have is one served at school, when they left school they would ordinarily go un-fed until the next day, which affected their concentration ability at school as a result of undernourishment. Notable signs of improvement from learners have been evident since food parcels were introduced. Most of the needy children have come from child-headed and granny- headed families.
